Strength Deployment Inventory

Strength Deployment Inventory

A proven tool

The Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) is a learning resource that has been used worldwide for more than 25 years. It is designed to enable you to understand the reason why people do things rather than just observe and react to what is done.

In our view, SDI is a great tool to use with newly formed teams and individuals who are relatively new to management. The profile is described as an inventory, not a test – there is no ‘right way of being’ and acts as a means to raise awareness of personal strengths and motivations – and how these may differ from person to person.

Development focussed on strengths

From a development perspective, managers can learn about their strengths and how they can use those strengths effectively to improve working or personal relationships with others.

Blended as part of a leader development programme, or as a single discreet event, the SDI is a powerful tool to help managers understand why certain people have an impact on them and visa versa. Furthermore, delegates learn how to recognise the real issues in relationships and how to tailor their language accordingly to communicate in more flexible and effective ways.

Learning how to manage conflict

Recognising and dealing with inter-personal conflict is a crucial element in all relationships but especially within teams. The SDI provides insights into how to recognise the first signs of conflict in others and shows how to respond appropriately to resolve the dispute before it gets out of hand or unwittingly causes further antagonism.

The inventory is a highly visual paper-based tool with good quality support materials that make for a highly effective workshop.

The results you can expect:

  • A common language to express motivation
  • Managers who are sensitive to the effects of different motivations within a team
  • A greater appreciation and acceptance of diverse motivational styles of behaviour
  • A greater awareness of the importance and ability to adapt leadership styles
  • A new angle on how conflict occurs and methods to lessen and even avoid those conflict situations
