What it does
Where physical and mental functioning are improved by conscious analysis of neuromuscular activity.
The Feldenkrais Method® offers a unique and practical way to realise potential more fully. It is an educational method focusing on learning and movement, which can bring about improved movement and enhanced functioning. It is named after its originator, Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), an engineer and physicist as well as a Judo teacher.
Lasting Solutions
Numerous methods develop fitness, muscle strength or provide relief from pain - at least temporarily. But a marathon runner with stamina and strong muscles will not be able to run fast if he has a stiff chest that prevents him from breathing effectively. And massage may relieve your back pain temporarily but, until you have learnt to sit on your chair in such a way that no muscles are stressed, the pain will return.
For lasting benefits you need to learn more efficient ways of moving, and this is what Feldenkrais teaches.

Awareness Through Movement in Groups
In a group class we look at an action that we all do in daily life such as walking, sitting or turning, noticing any discomfort or restrictions.
The main part of the lesson can be done in lying, sitting, standing or kneeling position. The teacher verbally guides you through a sequence of gentle movements intended to develop a greater awareness of how you move. You learn to use this awareness to let go of limiting habits and reconnect with your ability to move, think and feel with greater clarity and ease. People often experience a ‘revelation’ when they sense their potential for effortless yet powerful movement.
Finally we return to the original action to experience the improvement in fluidity, ease and range.
